 2017 Annual Town Meeting Warrant & Ordinances 

The application for Operation Santa Claus are now available at the Town Office. Applications must be mailed to Buckfield on or before Monday, October 16th.

Due to mandatory State of Maine training, the Sumner Town Office will be closed on Tuesday, October 17th and Wednesday, October 18th.

There will be roadside cutting and chipping of trees throughout the Town to prepare for ditching and snow removal.  The trees will be left for the property owner.  FMI, please contact Road Commissioner, Andy Wickson, (207) 515-1124.

Rapid Vehicle and Trailer Registration Renewal Service:  

   1.  You may now re-register your Motor vehicle on-line through the State  of Maine website.  Please click on this link: for        motor vehicles.

Hunting & Fishing License & Re-register ATV, Boats, and Snow Machines:

    2.  You may re-register ATV’s, Boats, and Snow Machines as well as purchase Hunting and Fishing Licenses Sumner is in Wildlife Management Districts 12 and 15. For more detailed information go to the Hunting or Recreational Vehicle tab at



Based on a bridge inspection and recommendation from MaineDOT, the Chandler Bridge that carries River Road will be closed to all traffic in the next few weeks. Replacing the bridge would be costly and not appropriate for a public road at this time.


ROAD ISSUES:  If you have any issues in regards to the Road conditions in Town, please call Road Commissioner Andrew Wickson directly at phone #515-1124.

Building Notifications – please come into the town office(form downloadable via link on website) and file your building notification prior to work being done, thank you!

Transfer Station permits – We have stickers available.  When registering a new-to-you vehicle, we will be happy to issue you a new sticker!

Sumner Post Office, tel. 388-2066; the window hours are as follows:

Monday-Friday, 7-10 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Saturday, 8-11 a.m.

Burn permits are available on-line.  See  There is a $7 fee for an on-line permit.  You can still contact our local firemen and receive a permit at no cost.

Property Record Cards are in the Planning Board Room in Map Order folders.  Tax maps and the Commitment Book are also in the Planning Board Room.  For copies or to see the working property cards, please ask in the Office.


The Animal Welfare Society and the Cleo Fund are offering services with participating local veterinary clinics to spay/neuter, health exams and rabies shots at a reduced rate for income-qualified cat owners with a $20.00 contribution requested but not required.  Feral and community cats will be spayed or neutered at the clinics for no charge. To obtain vouchers, please call the Cleo Fund at (207)773-6221.
